Practical and Transcendent - the beauty of the Chakras

Much has been written to try and describe, or explain, the Chakras. They could be described as representing the different frequencies or vibrations that energy takes in the happening that is a human being – frequencies that arise as the physical form and others that arise, and experienced, far more subtly.

Luckily the potential that lies within the symbolism and concepts of the Chakras doesn’t really care about how we describe them or whether we take these descriptions literally. In fact we are best served not taking the descriptions too literally and by holding the concepts lightly.

The beauty of the Chakras lies in the effectiveness of the practices that have been handed down to us from teacher to student over centuries.

Working with the chakras offers us practical and accessible tools to allow us to live fully, meeting the ups and downs of our lives from a place of rooted stability and with an open heart.

Through these practices, be that asana, mantra, visualization or meditation, we can experience tangible change in the personality – in our relationship with ourselves and with life. Over time these practices will ease and release blockages, or knots, that each of us have within the chakras as a result of having lived, of being human. This is an aspect of spiritual practice that is not always easy. Yet it is essential. Patterns, memories and experiences that are buried in the subconscious, though hidden from view, will continue to have an impact on our lives until they are made conscious and, slowly but surely, and sometimes painfully, we make peace with them.

The practices will allow a more harmonious expression of our being as we become more accepting of who and what we are – as the different frequencies of our being are able to express more freely.

So much of all of our Yoga practice that we’re already doing has an impact at the level of the chakras, however if we specifically focus on the symbolism, locations (without getting too hung up on being overly accurate) etc. our practice can be enhanced leading to even greater potency and effect.

As a result of this process there is the potential of an opening up to the realization of that which is symbolized by the Sahasrara chakra – the fundamental identity of all beings, of all that appears to be.

If you are interested in exploring these practices and ideas further Essential Nature Yoga are offering a 6-month online chakra course starting in September.  For further information visit  (https://www.essentialnatureyoga.co.uk/copy-of-workshops)
